Location
Queenstown is a mining town on the wild west coast of Tasmania, although on a much smaller scale than in the past. The town is set in rugged mountainous surroundings and has many reminders of its copper mining operations.
To see a bit of the town’s history head to the Gallery Museum, which has some very interesting displays, or you can join mine tours that take you above or below ground. For fantastic views of the surrounding area, head to the Spion Kop Lookout.
There are several rivers nearby which provide good trout fishing and guides are available if required. Take the 8 km walking track via the small settlement of Williamsford to the spectacular 100 metre high Montezuma Falls.
Driving times are:
3.5 hours from Hobart 250km
3.5 hours from Launceston 280km
2.5 hours from Devonport 180km
Chancellor Inn Queenstown is only a three minute stroll from the centre of town which has some lovely cafes & shops to browse in.
